New European Bauhaus 2022

The winners of the first New European Bauhaus were announced at the closing ceremony of the event that took place on Saturday in Brussels.

The awards celebrate new, inspiring examples of the changes that the New European Bauhaus aims to bring to our daily lives, living spaces and experiences.

Four awards were given in each of the four categories, including awards for existing completed projects and the Rising Stars Award for ideas for young talent aged 30 and under. In the “Reconnect with Nature” category, the winners are from Spain, France, Germany and Poland.

The awards for “Recovering the Sense of Belonging” were given to works from Austria, Lithuania, Poland and the Czech Republic. The best projects entitled “Priority in places and people who need it most” were selected by Belgium, Greece (Odyssea Academy), Italy and Hungary.

In the fourth category, “Shaping a circular industrial ecosystem and supporting life cycle thinking”, awards were given in Portugal, Romania, Finland and Italy.

Finally, two prizes were awarded to the winners of a public vote: a project “Gardens of the Future” from Cyprus and “Biophotovoltaics for nature and people”, a project Rising Stars from Spain. Each winner will receive a financial prize as well as a media partnership provided by the Commission for specific communication activities.

It should be noted that a total of 1100 projects were submitted, while the finalists were 52.

More than 200 parallel events across Europe took place from 9 to 12 June.

Parallel events organized by the New European Bauhaus in 25 countries included discussions on renewables, innovative technologies, urban agriculture, building evolution and climate-friendly mobility, as well as concerts, brainstorming sessions and exhibitions.
